Heart Breaking Stories of IDPS from Sawat

Rasool Allah salallahu Alayhe Wasallam said, “A Muslim is a brother of another Muslim, so he should not oppress him, nor should he hand him over to an oppressor. Whoever fulfilled the needs of his brother, Allah will fulfill his needs; whoever brought his (Muslim) brother out of a discomfort, Allah will bring him out of the discomforts on the Day of Resurrection, and whoever screened a Muslim, Allah will screen him on the Day of Resurrection.” (Bukhari)

The tragedy that has unfolded in front of us over the past few weeks tells of heartrending stories of irreparable loss. Each family has a story to tell. Some experiences are shared here:

* An old man who belonged to Swat asked his family to leave their home in 10-15 minutes when he came to know about the orders of the Army. In the mean time, he rushed to pick his new born child who had been wrapped in a blanket. After covering some distance, the most shocking fact of his life became evident to him—in the panic and rush he had picked up a pillow instead of his baby! He could not go back to look for him because of the strict curfew there. All his life he will have to live with the bitter truth that his child was left there all alone waiting for his death.

* Another old man who lived on top of one of the Swat hills had a disabled daughter who could not walk properly. The man was so old that it was not possible for him to lift her up and take her along. So, he left her with food and all the necessary items close by. He does not know whether she is alive or not, whether she is safe or became a victim of the bombings of the Talibaan or the Army.

* A pregnant lady who was leaving the area with her family started having labour pains during her journey in a truck. As there were a lot of males around, they were asked to get down in order to leave the pregnant lady alone with other females–this moment was also very embarrassing for the other females. The poor lady had no other choice–she delivered the baby in a truck wailing in pain.

* A woman at Yaar Hussain Camp was a proud mother back home of seven sons happily living together in the same house. After this operation started, she had to leave one of her sons with her disabled husband and crying miserably she told us that six of her sons were now missing and she was not aware whether they were alive or dead.

* An old lady at Pirpai Village had a swollen stomach. On interviewing her, we came to know that she had a wound and still had stitches in her stomach. She had only picked up her X-rays and medical reports while rushing out of her residence.

* An old woman at Jalozai Camp shared one of the most touching stories. She said that she was among those who had given charity to victims of previous disasters. She had donated almost eight trucks fully loaded with wheat and rice for the Bajaur affectees, and now she was sitting in a tent empty handed and all alone.

* A young girl at Jalozai Camp came from an affluent family with vast assets and wealth. She got married just a week before this shocking incident in her life. She shared that she lived such a luxurious life that her furniture amounted Rs one lakh. Yet, she came to the camps with nothing in her hands.

* The University Campus, Peshawar has accommodated 214 girls in different hostels. On asking the warden about their requirements, a pressing concern to which attention was drawn was the lack of adequate food for those girls. She also spoke about the absence of government support for them. After discussing this issue, the team thought of two options for solutions: they could coordinate with the government agencies through the Vice Chancellor to get help, or provide assistance independently from Al-Huda.

  1. The ignorance of a few people seems to know no bounds. He forgot the small warnings that were given to the people of Fir’oun and at every such adhab, they used to go to Musa AlayhisSalaam and tell him they will give up their dis-obedience to Allah but everytime they fell back on their word. Also the entire Egyptian population wasn’t wiped out at the time of Prophet Musa, only the people with Fir’oun chasing Bani Israel were drowned. And from then on, there were no natural disasters wiping out entire nations as Bani Israel were the first nation to be given orders of Jihad.
Also, in the case of this Ummah, Allah accepted the Du’a of the Prophet AlayhisSalatu WasSalaam wherein he asked Allah not to wipe his Ummah out as a result of natural disaster or a tyrrant ruler so we(Ummah of Muhammad AlayhisSalatuWassalaam) can’t be wiped out cuz that is a promise from Allah to his Messenger.
And standing firm on a notion doesn’t make that notion the truth. Iblees still stands firm in his notion that he was right in dis-obeying Allah so does that make him right ?
I know someone will unleash a huge personal attack against me but Bi-idhnillah I won’t stop from speaking the truth unless I find the people responding as completely ignorant.
As the Hadith of the Prophet AlayhisSalaatuWasSalaam goes(interpretation) “The one amongst you who believes in Allah and the last day, let him say that which is good or stay quiet”

  2. Javeria, it is sad to learn which direction our imaginations and judgements as a nation en masse, are heading to – a tunnel of narrow vision heading towards nowhere.

You quoted a few ayats that do not at all fit in this situation.
If my knowledge of azaabs in history is not wrong, I presume that the azaab had the following characteristics:
    1. It came through unnatural causes.
    2. It came after repeated clear warnings.
    3. Entire civilisations were wiped out.

Examples are Noah’s flood, exterminations of Qaum e Aad, Samood, Lut, the army of abraha, and perhaps Pompeii etc. Things happened in Biblical/Quranic proportions.

I still stand firm in my notion that it is becoming a fashion/trend to relate any mass human tragedy to azaab to create a hype. This is fitnagari and this practice should be stopped.

What brother Danish said is true and is based on the following words of Allah.

“Evil has appeared on land and sea because of what the hands of men have earned, that He may make them taste a part of that which they have done, in order that they may return.” (Ar-Rum: 41)

It is necessary for every heedful eye to learn a lesson from the calamities and disasters occurring in the lives of individuals and nations. To call them a turn of events or merely an accident and move on can prove harmful.

    Allah Ta’ala says:

“And verily we will make them taste of the near torment (in this world) prior to the supreme torment (in the Hereafter) in order that they may return (repent).” (As-Sajdah: 21)

“Was there any town that believed and its faith saved it (from the punishment) except the people of Yunus; when they believed we removed from them the torment of disgrace in the life of the world and permitted them to enjoy for a while (more). ” (Yunus:98)

“And turn in repentance and in obedience with true faith to your Lord and submit to Him before the torment comes upon you (and) then you will not be helped.” (Az-Zumar: 54)

“And fear the fitnah which affects not in particular (only) those of you who do wrong and know that Allah SWT is severe in punishment.” (Al-Anfal: 25)

Relating any mass human tragedy to AZAAB, to add further pain to the agony of the suffering people is becoming a fashion these days. The real azaab upon us is that we have people like you in our masses who think this way.

  6. Assalaamu ‘Alaykum

Indeed this is most sad and who knows when this situation may come to us. We see signs of the Adhab of Allah all around us and yet we don’t repent. May Allah guide us all Aameen
