How the Sahaba(ra) Loved Prophet Muhammad (saw)

Sad ibn Abi Waqas Sad bin Abi Waqas  related: “When my mother heard the news of my Islam, she flew into a rage. She came up to me and said:”O Sad! What is this religion that you have embraced which has taken you away from the religion of your mother and father…? By God, either you forsake your new religion or I would not eat or drink until I die. Your heart would be broken with grief for me and remorse would consume you on account of the deed which you have done and people would censure you forever more.’‘Don’t do (such a thing), my mother,’ I said, ‘for I would not give up my religion for anything.’However, she went on with her threat… For days she neither ate nor drank. She became emaciated and weak. Hour after hour, I went to her asking whether I should bring her some food or something to drink but she persistently refused, insisting that she would neither eat nor drink until she died or I abandoned my religion. I said to her:‘Yaa Ummaah! In spite of my strong love for you, my love for God and His Messenger is indeed stronger. By God, if you had a thousand souls and one soul after another were to depart, I would not abandon this my religion for anything.’ When she saw that I was determined she relented unwillingly and ate and drank.” [Mubarakpuri]

The Sacrifice of Seven Ansaris

During the battle of Uhud, the Quraish attacked the Muslims from behind when the Muslim archers left their position disobeying Rasool Allah. The entire Muslim army fell into chaos and fierce fighting was going on in the field. The Quraish attacked Rasool Allah, who was being protected by nine of his Sahaba. It has been reported on the authority of Anas b. Malik that (when the enemy got the upper hand) on the day of the Battle of Uhud, the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) was left with only seven men from the ansar and two men from the Quraish. When the enemy advanced towards him and overwhelmed him, he said: Whoso turns them away from us will attain
Paradise or will be my Companion in
Paradise. A man from the Ansar came forward and fought (the enemy) until he was killed. The enemy advanced and overwhelmed him again and he repeated the words: Whoso turns them away, from us will attain
Paradise or will be my Companion in
Paradise. A man from the Arsar came forward and fought until he was killed. This state continued until the seven Ansar were killed (one after the other). Now, the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said to his two Companions: We have not done justice to our Companions. [Muslim:: Book 19 : Hadith 4413]

The Human shield of Talha and Sad (ra)

After the martyrdom of the seventh Ansari in Uhud, two Quraishis were left guarding Rasool Allah; Talha bin Ubaidullh and Sad bin Abi Waqqas.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Narrated Mu’tamir’s father: ‘Uthman said that on the day of the battle of Uhud, none remained with the Prophet but Talha and Sad. [Bukhari :: Book 5 :: Volume 59 :: Hadith 389]These two Sahaba bravely fought the Quraish and used their own bodies as shields to protect Rasool Allah, such was their love for him. Narrated Qais: I saw Talha’s paralyzed hand with which he had protected the Prophet on the day of Uhud. Bukhari :: Book 5 :: Volume 59 :: Hadith 392 Abu Bakr Said : “When it was Uhud Day and at the time that the Prophet [pbuh] was left behind, I was the first to go back and see him. Before him I saw a man fighting to shield him from the enemies. I said to myself: ‘I wish he were Talha. Let my father and mother be sacrificed for you. (O Allah, Let him be Talha! Let my parents be sacrificed for you!’ On the way, I was overtaken by Abu ‘Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah, who was then moving as swiftly as a bird. We both rushed to dress the Prophet [pbuh]’s wounds. There we found Talha suffering from serious wounds before the Messenger of Allah [pbuh].” [Mubarakpuri]Narrated ‘Ali: I have never heard the Prophet mentioning his father and mother for anybody other than Sad bin Malik. ( Aka – Sad bin Abi Waqas) I heard him saying on the day of Uhud, “O Sad throw (arrows)! Let my father and mother be sacrificed for you!” [Bukhari:: Book 5 :: Volume 59 :: Hadith 389]  The Human Shield of Sahaba During the battle of Uhud, when the battle turned against them, Rasool Allah was left with Talha bin Ubaidullah  and Sad bin abi Waqas for only a few seconds to shield him, before other Sahaba arrived to shield him.In a version by ‘Aishah [R] recorded in Ibn Hibban’s Sahih, she narrated that Abu Bakr had said:At those awkward moments of that day, a group of Muslim heroes gathered around the Prophet [pbuh] forming a shield to protect him from the idolaters. Some of them were Abu Dujana, Mus‘ab bin ‘Umair, ‘Ali bin Abi Talib, Sahl bin Haneef, Malik bin — Sinan the father of Abu Sa‘d Al-Khudri, Umm‘Amara, Nusaiba bint Ka‘b Al-Mniya, Qatada bin An-Nu‘man, ‘Umar bin Al-Khattab, Hatib bin Abi Balta‘a and Abu Talha. [Mubarakpuri]

Abu Talha Ansari’s shield:Narrated Anas: When it was the day of Uhud, the people left the Prophet while Abu Talha was in front of the Prophet shielding him with his leather shield…The Prophet would raise his head to look at the enemy, whereupon Abu Talha would say, “Let my father and mother be sacrificed for you ! Do not raise your head, lest an arrow of the enemy should hit you. (Let) my neck (be struck) rather than your neck.” [Bukhari:: Book 5 :: Volume 59 :: Hadith 393]

“Umme Amarah, whose real name was Nusaibah binte Kab, went following the Musilm troops…when the situation turned against the Muslims, she rushed to be by the side of the Prophet…When ibn Qamiah attacked the Prophet (saw), she rushed forward like a flash of lightening and launched sever attacks (on him)…But his counter attack left a deep injury on her arm near the shoulder.” [Najeebabadi]
